THE 342 WAS INTRODUCED IN 1947 AS A DE;UXE STEAM SWITCHER . FEATURES INCLUDED SUPER SMOKE IN TENDER, HEADLIGHT, BACKUP LIGHT, AC OR DC MOTOR, AND LINK COUPLER. LINK DRAWBAR PROVIDED IN NOSE OF LOCOMOTIVE.
THE 342 WAS MADE A SMOKE IN THE LOC MODEL IN 1948 AND STILL WAS AVAILABLE IN AC OR DC MODE.
IN 1949, THE LETTERS DC AND AC WERE ADDED TO 342 IN THE DC AND AC MODELS, RESPECTIVELY,
THE 343 WAS INTROODUCED IN 1953 AS A PULL-MOR LOCOMOTIVE COMPLETE WITH KNUCKLE COUPLERS FRONT AND REAR.
THE EXPERIMENTAL 346 WAS PRODUCED IN 1955/ IT FEATURED AIRCHIME WHISTLE AND A NOVEL 3 STEP REVERSE LOCATED IN THE REAR OF THE CAB. CERTAIN ENGINEERING DEFICIENCIES DOOMED THIS EFFORT TO FAILURE- THE SHAME IS OUR RESIDENT ENGINEER FOUND OUT HOW YO CORRECT THE PROBLEM FORTY YEARS TOO LATE!!!
THE 343 WAS RE-INTRDUCED IN 1956 FOR A SECOND RUN!!!
THE FINALE CAME IN 1958 WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE RARE 21145. IT SEEMED THAT BY THEN , CONSUMERS WERE THUMBING THEIR NOSES AT HIGH QUALITY AND WERE LOOKING FOR CHEAPER ALTERNATIVES.
